Imigrantes em Bauru

Abstract

The city of Bauru, before an inhospitable place and more infertile land in the rest of the state territory for the cultivation of coffee, showed its cosmopolitan vocation early in the twentieth century when it was chosen as the starting point of the Railroad Northwest Brazil, who ran a railway line to Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul, on the border with Bolivia. The northwest part of the state, which developed rapidly after the arrival of the railway in 1900 had a population of only 7,815 inhabitants, while in the third decade of the twentieth century, the region's population had increased by 80 times. The north-west reached absorb more than 1/4 of the São Paulo immigration and the origin of these waves of immigrants was diverse. In this big reporting, we presented to the public three immigrant men who came for different reasons reside in Bauru. A cypriots who came to the city after his wife know in Europe, one Ugandan who arrived in Bauru for a dental treatment and a Salvadoran who come fleeing war in his country. During the report we present the history of the countries where these men lived, the difficulties faced in Brazil and his impressions of the Brazilian culture

O município de Bauru, antes um lugar inóspito e com terras menos produtivas para o cultivo de café que as do restante do território paulista, mostrou sua vocação cosmopolita logo no início do século XX, quando foi escolhido como ponto de partida da Estrada de Ferro Noroeste do Brasil, que administrava uma linha férrea até Corumbá, no Mato Grosso do Sul, junto à fronteira com a Bolívia. A zona noroeste do estado, que se desenvolveu rapidamente após a chegada da ferrovia, tinha em 1900 uma população de apenas 7.815 habitantes, enquanto na terceira década do século XX, a população da região já havia aumentado em 80 vezes. A zona noroeste chegou a absorver mais de 1/4 da imigração paulista e a origem dessas levas de imigrantes era diversificada. Na grande reportagem apresentamos ao público três homens imigrantes que vieram por diferentes motivos residir em Bauru. Um cipriota que veio à cidade após conhecer sua esposa brasileira na Europa, um ugandense que chegou a Bauru para um tratamento dentário, e um salvadorenho que veio fugindo da guerra em seu país. Na reportagem apresentamos a história dos países em que esses homens viveram, as dificuldades enfrentadas no Brasil e suas impressões sobre a cultura brasileira
