Abstract

This paper is a panoramic view of the first decades of composition of fables in Brazilian literature, starting off with an allegorical poem by Francisco Vilela Barbosa published in 1848, and extending until 1907, when Coelho Neto edited his Fabulario. This chronological approach presents seven writers, whose texts, composed in verse or in prose, helped to shape the Brazilian fable.
