Matemática recreativa: uma experiência no Ensino Fundamental

Abstract

A Matemática Recreativa é uma forma de despertar a curiosidade e o pensamento matemático nos estudantes por meio de jogos e problemas criativos e, desta forma, favorecer o ensino-aprendizagem desta ciência. Este trabalho apresenta algumas definições da Matemática Recreativa encontrada na literatura e faz um breve relato sobre a biografia de Malba Tahan, um dos pioneiros na idealização da Matemática Recreativa no Brasil. Como produto final, apresentamos uma associação entre alguns problemas do livro “O homem que calculava” de Malba Tahan e as habilidades do Currículo Paulista de Matemática. Cabe ressaltar que as habilidades presentes neste currículo orientam as práticas pedagógicas do professor de matemática do Estado de São Paulo. Além disso, apresentamos duas propostas de jogos recreativos que podem ser aplicados a estudantes do Ensino Fundamental - o Sudoku e o problema dos quatro quatros. Estes jogos podem ser utilizados para reforçar ou introduzir algum conceito matemático ou simplesmente desenvolver o pensamento matemático nos estudantes. Neste trabalho abordamos alguns aspectos matemáticos deste jogos como, uma forma geral para o problema dos quatro quatros e o número mínimo de pistas do Sudoku. Finalmente, descrevemos o desenvolvimento destes jogos junto aos alunos do 6o ano do Ensino Fundamental II de uma escola pública e fazemos uma descrição do ganho pedagógico do uso da Matemática Recreativa neste contexto escolar.

Recreational Mathematics is a way of awakening curiosity and mathematical thinking in students through games and creative problems and, in this way, favoring the teaching-learning of this science. This work presents some definitions of Recreational Mathematics found in the literature and gives a brief account of the biography of Malba Tahan, one of the pioneers in the idealization of Recreational Mathematics in Brazil. As a final product, we present an association between some problems from the book “The Man Who Calculated” by Malba Tahan and the skills of the São Paulo Mathematics Curriculum. It is worth noting that the skills present in this curriculum guide the pedagogical practices of mathematics teachers in the State of São Paulo. Furthermore, we present two proposals for recreational games that can be applied to elementary school students- Sudoku and the problem of four fours. These games can be used to reinforce or introduce a mathematical concept or simply develop mathematical thinking in students. In this work we address some mathematical aspects of this game, such as a general form for the four fours problem and the minimum number of Sudoku clues. Finally, we describe the development of these games with students in the 6th year of Elementary School II at a public school and describe the pedagogical benefits of using Recreational Mathematics in this school context.
