A relação entre violência e arte não é algo restrito à contemporaneidade, entretanto o desdobramento das vanguardas do início do século XX levaram essa tensão a um limite da representatividade. O diálogo entre ética e estética é uma discussão pertinente aos nossos dias: vivemos em um mundo em que a ameaça reacionária se apodera dos aparatos midiáticos e comunicativos para construir uma massificada estética do mal-gosto. A proposta deste trabalho é pautada na análise de três contos contemporâneos nos quais podemos encontrar a tensão entre violência e arte. Os contos são “La pesada valija de Benavides” e “Cabezas contra el asfalto”, da escritora argentina Samanta Schweblin e “Crías”, da equatoriana Maria Fernanda Ampuero. O objetivo deste trabalho é procurar entender de qual maneira as autoras constroem sua narrativa ao redor da tensão entre arte e violência e quais os efeitos de sentido gerados por esta tensão quando ela é duplamente mediada: primeiro, pelo sujeito interno, personagem da narrativa que se depara com um objeto estético relacionado a violência e depois pelo próprio conto, objeto estético em si que media a significação entre o sujeito da enunciação e nós leitores. O percurso de leitura proposto inicia-se com discussões acerca de alguns conceitos e transformações da arte no período citado - do início da vanguarda até a oposição entre a cultura de massa e o desenvolvimento da arte contemporânea - para que depois seja possível aprofundar a pesquisa no da violência e suas diversas possibilidades de definições. Quanto a violência, busca-se compreender, para além de suas definições, de qual modo ela estrutura a sociedade em que vivemos, emaranhada em nossa vida social, profissional e em nossa formação psíquica. Findada essa primeira exposição, o próximo passo é a familiarização com a ferramenta de análise literária escolhida, a semiótica greimasiana. Conceitos como figurativização, tematização e isotopia, da semiótica discursiva e as reflexões de Greimas acerca das paixões em suas obras “Semiótica das paixões” e “Da imperfeição” são de muito valor para o desenvolvimento do trabalho.

The relation between violence and art is not something relegated only to the contemporary, however the advent of the vanguards at the start of the 20th century has led this tension to the limits of representation. The dialog between ethics and aesthetics is a discussion very pertinent to our current moment: we live in a world where a reactionary menace takes hold of the media with the intent of building an aesthetic of deliberate bad taste. The proposition of this work is based on the analysis of three contemporary short stories in which we can find the tension between violence and art. The short stories being “La pesada valija de Benavides” and “Cabezas contra el asfalto”, by Argentinian writer Samanta Schweblin and “Crias”, by Ecuadorian writer Maria Fernanda Ampuero. The goal of this work is to try and make sense of the way in which the authors build their narratives around the tension between art and violence as well as the effects of meaning generated by this tension once it is doubly mediated: first by the internal subject, a character part of the narrative who comes face to face with an aesthetic object related to violence, and later by the short story in which they are contained, an aesthetic object in and of itself, which mediates the meaning between the subject and us readers. The reading path offered here starts with discussions around some concepts and transformations around art in the time period mentioned – from the beginning of the vanguards until the opposition between mass culture and the development of contemporary art – in order for us to better delve into the research regarding violence and its many diverse possibilities and definitions. In regards to violence, we try to understand, beyond definitions, in what way it structures the society in which we live, tied together in our social and professional lives, as well as our psychological formation. Once done with this first exposition, the next step is the familiarization with the tool of literary analysis chosen: the semiotics of A. L. Greimas. Concepts such as figuration, theming and isotopy, from discourse semiotics and the reflections of Greimas in regards to passion in his works “The Semiotics of Passion” and “De l’Imperfection” are of great help to the development of this work.
