Sob a denominação de suspense, um conjunto de ficção seriada televisiva vem se destacando, atualmente, por instigar a manutenção da fruição sob demanda além do período de duas horas, conforme uma mensuração divulgada pela Netflix Media Center no ano de 2016. Partindo desse pressuposto, a presente tese questiona: o que é suspense? Considera-se que existem oscilações em torno do vocábulo como referência de sentido. Realiza-se uma leitura dessa publicização do serviço sob demanda, examinando o córpus indicado com a nomeação, além de obras literárias e cinematográficas identificadas com o termo. Com Tzvetan Todorov (2017), compreende-se o suspense como gênero histórico e teórico. De um lado, dá-se uma atenção maior ao contexto, com o exame de textos de periódicos com menções ao suspense. Do outro, discutem-se aspectos conceituais e narrativos. Avalia-se a tipologia da narrativa policial todoroviana, onde o suspense aparece entre a história de mistério e negra (TODOROV, 2013). Como protocolo metodológico, centra-se na suspensão e na hesitação como categorias narrativas, extraídas da significação da palavra suspense, discutindo-as em histórias de inúmeras correntes da literatura, para entender quais suspensões possivelmente motivaram o leitor na fruição. Por fim, essas suspensões foram comparadas com suspensões do enunciado de suspense.
Abstract (english)
Under the name of thriller, a set of television serial fiction has been standing out today for instigating the on-demand reception beyond two hours, as measured by Netflix Media Center in 2016. Based on this assumption, the thesis asks: what is suspense and thriller? It is considered that there are oscillations around this term as a meaning reference. This publicity of the service on demand is analyzed, examining the corpus indicated with the nomination, as well as literary and cinematographic works identified with the term. On the one hand, greater attention is given to context, with the examination of texts from periodicals with mentions of words suspense and thriller. On the other hand, conceptual and narrative aspects are discussed. From Tzvetan Todorov (2017), suspense is understood as a historical and theoretical genre. Furthermore, the typology of police narrative by Todorov (2013) is questioned, where thriller appears between mystery story and black series. As a methodological protocol, it focused on suspension and hesitation as narrative categories extracted from the meaning of the term suspense, discussing them in remarkable stories from numerous currents of literature, in order to understand which suspensions possibly motivated the reader in their enjoyment. Finally, these suspensions were compared with the suspensions of the suspense statement.
