Semiótica e cultura de massa: um estudo historiográfico

Abstract

Esta pesquisa objetivou compreender em que medida a semiologia europeia e a semiótica do discurso se interessaram pelos objetos da cultura de massa, ou seja, como ambas formularam pressupostos teóricos a partir da emergência de práticas ligadas à indústria cultural. Para tanto, lançou-se mão dos princípios da historiografia da linguística formulados por Ronaldo Batista e Konrad Koerner. Com base em suas reflexões, buscou-se traçar a trajetória histórico-conceitual dos estudos sobre objetos da comunicação de massa realizados pela semiologia e pela semiótica francesas ao longo de um período de três décadas (1950-1979). A narrativa historiográfica construída procurou solucionar hipóteses que rondam os paradigmas metodológicos dispostos dentro da linguística de origem estruturalista da época, de modo que foi possível entender como as práticas linguísticas da semiologia e da semiótica francesas desenvolveram e consolidaram suas perspectivas teóricas, tendo em vista a influência dos objetos da cultura de massa. A investigação circunscreve os primeiros postulados da semiologia, em F. Saussure, e da função semiótica, em L. Hjelmslev, bem como seus desdobramentos a partir de R. Barthes e A. J. Greimas. Por meio de provas textuais e imanentes coletadas em publicações das revistas científicas Communications e Langages, a pesquisa buscou analisar e compreender alguns fatos da institucionalização de uma translinguística e uma semiolinguística, debruçando-se sobre artigos de autores envolvidos com a estrutura das linguagens da cultura de massa.

This research aimed to understand to what extent European Semiology and Semiotics of Discourse were interested in objects of mass culture, that is, how both formulated theoretical assumptions from the emergence of practices linked to the cultural industry. To this end, the principles of the Historiography of Linguistics formulated by Ronaldo Batista and Konrad Koerner were used. Based on their reflections, we sought to trace the historical-conceptual trajectory of studies on objects of mass communication carried out by French Semiology and Semiotics across the span of three decades (1950-1979). The historiographical narrative constructed intended to solve hypotheses that surround the methodological paradigms arranged within the Linguistics of structuralist origin en vogue at the time, so that it was possible to understand how the linguistic practices of French Semiology and Semiotics developed and consolidated their theoretical perspectives, in view of the influence of mass culture objects. The investigation circumscribes the first principles of Semiology, in F. Saussure, and of the semiotic function, in L. Hjelmslev, as well as their unfoldings from R. Barthes and A. J. Greimas. Through textual evidence and immanent elements collected in publications of the scientific journals “Communications” and “Langages”, the research sought to analyze and understand some facts of the institutionalization of a translinguistics and a semiolinguistics, focusing on articles written by authors involved with the structure of the languages of mass culture.
