O presente trabalho procura investigar a manifestação figurativa em excertos das três obras de Virgílio: as Bucólicas, as Geórgicas e a Eneida. Pretende-se, por meio da Semiótica Literária, analisar os excertos das obras do ponto de vista da expressão, com destaque para a vocação imagética dos textos, a sua figuratividade. Além disso, o trabalho debruça-se sobre o conceito de estilo ao investigar, na chamada Roda de Virgílio, os três tipos de estilo descritos pela Retórica Antiga, a saber: o estilo singelo, o estilo médio e o estilo grandiloquente. Trata-se de um esquema circular tripartido do século XIII que apresenta as Bucólicas no estilo singelo, as Geórgicas, no médio e a Eneida no grandiloquente. Com isso, o esquema da Roda compreende para cada texto virgiliano um cenário representativo diferente, com diferentes caracteres. O presente estudo procura, assim, ampliar a compreensão acerca dos três estilos ao entendê-los como efeitos de sentido engendrados nos textos, ou seja, como específicos efeitos sugestionados nas obras a partir da predominância de um tratamento temático, seguido de sua isotopia figurativa. Apresentamos, ainda, uma tradução dos excertos virgilianos aqui destacados para análise. A pesquisa é um estudo sobre a estrutura poética das obras virgilianas, com destaque, portanto, para a presença da figuratividade na poesia bucólica, didática e épica.
Abstract (english)
The present study seeks to investigate the figurative manifestation in excerpts of Virgil’s three works: the Eclogues, the Georgics and the Aeneid. It is intended, through Literary Semiotics to analyze the excerpts of the works from the point of view of expression, with emphasis on the imagery vocation of the texts, their figurativity. In addition, the work focuses on the concept of style by investigating, in the so-called Virgil's Wheel, the three types of style described by Ancient Rhetoric, namely: the simple style, the medium style and the grandiloquent style. It is a circular tripartite scheme from the 13th century that presents the Eclogues in simple style, the Georgics in the middle and the Aeneid in the grandiloquent. Thus, the scheme of the Wheel comprises a different representative scenario for each Virgilian text, with different characters. The present study thus seeks to increase the understanding of the three styles to understand them as meaning effects engendered in the texts that is, as specific effects suggested in the works from the predominance of a thematic treatment, followed by their figurative isotopy. We also present a translation of the Virgilian excerpts highlighted here for analysis. The research is a study on the poetic structure of Virgilian works, with emphasis, therefore, on the presence of figurativity in bucolic, didactic and epic poetry.
