Resumo

The nutritional status of fruit trees can be routinely evaluated either indirectly, via soil chemical analysis, or directly, via plant leaf analysis. The usefulness of leaf diagnosis depends on leaf sampling, chemical analysis of plant tissue, and the correct interpretation of the results. The result interpretation phase requires comparing the standard obtained from productive plants with adequate nutritional balance with the sample to be evaluated using uni-, bi-, or multivariate methods as to produce a diagnosis indicating sufficiency, deficiency, or toxicity of a certain nutrient. The obtained result allows correcting nutrient levels to the ideal by adjusting fertilization management to promote an increase in crop yield. Therefore, the objective of this literature review was to discuss the importance of leaf diagnosis and its main aspects for the adequate diagnosis, based on the sustainable management of fruit fertilization.
