The aristoteic categories as Knowledge Organization structures of xilographic works

Abstract

The study intends to bring a reflection on establishing fundamental categories that can structure and systematize the characteristic elements of xylographic works thinking about a process able to assist in organizing the information to be retrieved. As a methodological procedure, the Content Analysis was chosen, with a qualitative approach, to which it was possible to structure the entire constitutive process of the research. The research evidenced the thematic elements of the woodcuts relating them to the categorical systematization corresponding to the ten Aristotelian categories, making possible the establishment of an ordered schematization of the terms I encompass some the procedures of the xylographic technique. Thus, the research contributes to a point of discussion that can enrich the theoretical and applied debate regarding the Knowledge Organization processes and, in particular, for the possibility of standardization in the ways of organizing and representing these documents.
