O ensino de geografia e as concepções educacionais da escola nova (1935-1954)

Abstract

Este trabalho é fruto de pesquisa sobre o ensino de Geografia, no contexto da Escola Nova, incluindo a relação entre a Geografia moderna e os princípios escolanovistas. A metodologia foi realizada por meio da pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, principalmente através de periódicos. O Boletim Geográfico e a Revista Brasileira de Geografia foram destacados. Teve como objetivo compreender as orientações escolanovistas para o ensino de Geografia, buscando entender como as ideias referentes à Escola Nova circularam nos locais de discussão da Geografia escolar, no Brasil. Para tanto, foram investigados os periódicos de Geografia e os Congressos Brasileiros sobre o ensino de Geografia atuantes nesse período, marcado pelas propostas de inovações pedagógicas. Complementarmente, sobre essa temática, foi averiguado o relatório do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), no ano de 1940. A partir disso, os resultados encontrados indicavam a busca pela normatização das práticas escolares e a tentativa de promover as mudanças na mentalidade dos professores, com o advento da Escola Nova. Nesse meio, almejava uma formação integral, moral, ética e ativa aliada aos ideais do nacionalismo e do Estado. Assim, a pesquisa aqui apresentada reforçou o contexto escolar da época e também os aspectos da História da Geografia escolar, demonstrando as concepções que auxiliaram na compreensão das orientações escolanovistas sobre as práticas do ensino em Geografia.

This work is the result of research on the teaching of Geography in the context of the New School, including the relationship between modern Geography and the principles of the New School. The methodology was carried out through bibliographical and documentary research, mainly through periodicals. The Boletim Geográfico and the Revista Brasileira de Geografia were highlighted. The objective was to understand the New School guidelines for the teaching of Geography, seeking to understand how the ideas related to the New School circulated in the places where school Geography was discussed in Brazil. To this end, Geography periodicals and Brazilian Congresses on the teaching of Geography that were active during this period, marked by proposals for pedagogical innovations, were investigated. In addition, on this subject, the report of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) from 1940 was investigated. From this, the results found indicated the search for the standardization of school practices and the attempt to promote changes in the mentality of teachers, with the advent of the New School. In this environment, it aimed for a comprehensive, moral, ethical and active education allied to the ideals of nationalism and the State. Thus, the research presented here reinforced the school context of the time, as well as aspects of the History of school Geography, and demonstrated the concepts that helped in the understanding of the New School guidelines on the practices of teaching Geography.
