Entre o riso e a morte: reflexões satíricas e filosóficas em as intermitências da morte (2005), de José Saramago

Abstract

Este trabalho possui o objetivo de analisar os recursos da sátira menipeia do romance As intermitências da morte, de José Saramago. O estudo identificou a utilização da sátira como modo de elaboração e abordagem para dissertar e refletir sobre a convivência do homem com a morte. O embasamento teórico deste trabalho são as leituras complementares que auxiliam no entendimento desta investigação, as obras de Soethe (1988), Hodgart (1969), Jolles (1976), entre outros autores que foram determinantes para esclarecer as manifestações satíricas identificadas no romance – a ridicularização, o rebaixamento e o mundo às avessas. O estudo ampara-se ainda em leituras das obras de Aguilera (2010), Berrini (1998), Reis (1998) entre outros para refletir sobre a produção literária de José Saramago. Desta maneira, a dissertação apresentará resultados que tratam da utilização dos recursos cômicos na obra saramaguiana como forma de contribuição quanto à possibilidade de a Literatura representar o processo de finitude para os leitores, corroborando na elaboração das reflexões sobre o luto e a angústia por meio do riso dirigido às distorções promovida pela sociedade em torno da morte. A obra As intermitências da morte, portanto, promove a consciência e a reflexão no leitor ao apresentar os comportamentos repreensíveis da sociedade contemporânea diante da morte: a recusa, o distanciamento, a patologização e o terror relacionado à finitude. Sendo assim, José Saramago coloca esses comportamentos sob uma lente crítica e, a partir disso, apresenta e questiona as motivações amplamente relacionadas ao tema da morte.

This work aims to analyze the features of menippean satire in the novel Death with interruptions, by José Saramago. The study identified the use of satire as a method of elaboration and approach to discuss and reflect on man's coexistence with death. The theoretical basis of this work is the complementary readings that help in understanding this investigation, the works of Soethe (1988), Hodgart (1969), Jolles (1976), among other authors who were decisive in clarifying the satirical manifestations identified in the novel - the ridicule, demotion and the world turned upside down. The study is also supported by readings of the works of Aguilera (2010), Berrini (1998), Reis (1998) among others to reflect on the literary production of José Saramago. In this way, the dissertation will present results that deal with the use of comic resources in Saramago's work as a form of contribution regarding the possibility of Literature representing the process of finitude for readers, corroborating the elaboration of reflections on mourning and anguish through laughter directed at the distortions promoted by society around death. The work Death with interruptions, therefore, promotes awareness and reflection in the reader by presenting the reprehensible behaviors of contemporary society in the face of death: refusal, distancing, pathologization and terror related to finitude. Therefore, José Saramago places these behaviors under a critical lens and, from this, presents and questions the motivations broadly related to the theme of death.
