A maternidade e seu lugar na sociedade passaram por transformações significativas ao longo da história que estão ligadas às transformações no papel da mulher na sociedade. Desse modo, a maternidade tem sido objeto de estudos de diversos campos científicos, principalmente dentro da psicologia, com importante contribuição da Psicanálise. Os estudos sobre maternidade e prematuridade apontam que o nascimento de um prematuro tem grande impacto no processo de adaptação mãe/bebê, sendo importante compreender a experiência de maternagem nesse campo maternidade-prematuridade-família, uma vez que tornar-se mãe de um bebê prematuro é uma experiência que atravessa as mulheres diretamente no exercício de sua maternagem. Esta pesquisa objetivou compreender a experiência da maternidade de mães de filhos prematuros, e como se organiza a vida familiar no retorno para casa, após o período de internação que sucedeu ao nascimento. A pesquisa delineou-se como uma pesquisa qualitativa, exploratório-descritiva, que teve a entrevista semidirigida como instrumento de coleta de dados. Foram entrevistadas cinco mulheres, entre 27 e 42 anos, que se tornaram mães de bebês prematuros, que haviam passado pela experiência do retorno para a casa com seus bebês, e seus filhos se encontravam na idade entre 07 e 09 anos. As entrevistas foram realizadas de forma individual e foram seguidos todos os critérios éticos. As questões que nortearam as entrevistas focalizaram a experiência da maternidade prematura e do retorno para casa após a alta hospitalar. As entrevistas foram transcritas e analisadas à luz das discussões sobre a maternidade e do referencial teórico da Psicanálise, em especial a teoria de Donald W. Winnicott. Para análise do material das entrevistas, utilizamos a análise de conteúdo temática. Os resultados evidenciaram o sofrimento vivenciado pelas mães diante da prematuridade de seus filhos, e suas repercussões na construção do vínculo com o bebê, além das repercussões em sua saúde mental. Observamos também que o sofrimento apresentado pelas mães não está atrelado somente à vivência da prematuridade, mas também a uma ruptura com o ideal social sobre a maternidade, apontando para a necessidade de reflexão e de transformação do olhar para a maternidade, em que ela possa ser reconhecida como experiência plural.

Motherhood and its place in society have undergone significant transformations throughout history that are linked to changes in the role of women in society. Thus, motherhood has been the subject of studies in different scientific fields, mainly within psychology, with an important contribution from Psychoanalysis. Studies on motherhood and prematurity indicate that the birth of a premature baby has a great impact on the mother/baby adaptation process, and it is important to understand the mothering experience in this maternity-prematurity-family field, since becoming the mother of a premature baby It is an experience that affects women directly in the exercise of their mothering. This research aimed to understand the motherhood experience of mothers of premature children, and how family life is organized upon returning home, after the period of hospitalization following the birth. The research was designed as a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive work, which used a semi-directed interview as a data collection instrument. Five women were interviewed, between 27 and 42 years old, who became mothers of premature babies, who had gone through the experience of returning home with their babies, and their children were aged between 7 and 9 years old. The interviews were carried out individually and all ethical criteria were followed. The questions that guided the interviews focused on the experience of premature motherhood and returning home after hospital discharge. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed in light of discussions about motherhood and the theoretical framework of Psychoanalysis, especially Donald W. Winnicott's theory. To analyze the material from the interviews, we used thematic content analysis. The results highlighted the suffering experienced by mothers when faced with the prematurity of their children, and its repercussions on building a bond with the baby, in addition to the repercussions on their mental health. We also observed that the suffering presented by mothers is not only linked to the experience of prematurity, but also to a rupture with the social ideal about motherhood, pointing to the need for reflection and transformation of the perspective on motherhood, in which it can be recognized as a plural experience.
