Esta pesquisa busca estudar as escolhas feitas pelo antropólogo-cineasta Jean Rouch, tendo em vista elucidar o uso da ficção em seus filmes. Para isto tomou-se como ponto de partida estudos em antropologia visual e cinema documentário, retomando os primeiros documentários e os primeiros trabalhos etnográficos envolvendo imagens, isto é, os filmes de Flaherty e Vertov, e os trabalhos de Mead e Bateson, respectivamente. A partir disso busca-se demonstrar como a ficção trouxe novas possibilidades para o campo não somente do documentário, mas também da antropologia, possibilitando revelar algo que não poderia ser revelado de outra forma que não pelo cinema, além de incluir as falas dos atores sociais, isto é, os sujeitos da pesquisa, trazendo, através do cinema, questões que possibilitam pensar outra forma de fazer antropologia. Além disso, buscar-se-á demonstrar a ficção enquanto fabulação, ou seja, enquanto uma forma de criar, através do cinema, algo novo, possibilitando aceder ao imaginário e aos sonhos dos sujeitos da pesquisa, os quais se tornam reais nos filmes.

This research seeks to study the choices made by anthropologist-filmmaker Jean Rouch, with a view to elucidating the use of fiction in his films. Aiming that, studies in visual anthropology and documentary cinema were taken as a starting point, taking up the first documentaries and the first ethnographic works involving images, that is, the films of Flaherty and Vertov, and the works of Mead and Bateson, respectively. From that, we seek to demonstrate how fiction has brought new possibilities not only to the documentary, but also to the anthropology, making it possible to reveal something that could not be revealed in any other way than through cinema, in addition to including the speeches of social actors , that is, the research subjects, bringing, through cinema, questions that make it possible to think about other ways of making anthropology. Furthermore, it will seek to demonstrate fiction as a fabulation, that is, as a way of creating, through cinema, something new, enabling access to the imagination and dreams of the research subjects, which become real in the films.
