O batuque em Araraquara: entre memórias e (re)vivências

Abstract

A presente pesquisa tem por finalidade discorrer sobre o batuque realizado no município de Araraquara, interior paulista, entre as décadas de 1920 e 1950. Nosso estudo fundamentou-se na metodologia da história oral, valendo-se da memória e a oralidade, como instrumentos que promovem a manutenção de histórias e saberes que foram marginalizados e não estão presentes na história oficial da cidade, mas sendo memórias subterrâneas, conforme Pollak (1989) a descreve, foram transmitidos no ambiente familiar e nos círculos de amizade, viabilizando o conhecimento de múltiplas vivências e revelando os significados e interpretações construídas pelo grupo, tornando-se assim um documento. Partindo dos depoimentos de 14 depoentes/colaboradores que vivenciaram ou ainda guardam lembranças da festividade, entramos em contato com o universo do batuque de Araraquara rememorando pessoas que participavam da manifestação, os lugares onde eram realizados, como era festividade e os momentos de celebração. Considerando que estas memórias são testemunhos relacionados à vida individual e coletiva, situados em um contexto histórico e social do município, vislumbramos que rememorar o batuque, imprime no agora sentidos que refazem ruas, bairros, identidades, sentimentos e todo um contexto de sociabilidade vivenciado pela população negra.

This research aims to discuss the batuque performed in the city of Araraquara, in the interior of São Paulo, between the 1920s and 1950s. Our study was based on the methodology of oral history, using memory and orality, as instruments that promote the maintenance of stories and knowledge that were marginalized and are not present in the official history of the city, but being underground memories, as Pollak (1989) describes it, were transmitted in the family environment and in circles of friendship, enabling the knowledge of multiple experiences and revealing the meanings and interpretations constructed by the group, thus becoming a document. Starting from the testimonies of 14 deponents / collaborators who experienced or still keep memories of the festivity, we came into contact with the universe of the Araraquara batuque reminiscing about people who participated in the demonstration, the places where they were held, how it was a festival and the moments of celebration. Considering that these memories are testimonies related to individual and collective life, located in a historical and social context of the municipality, we see that remembering the batuque, prints in the now senses that remake streets, neighborhoods, identities, feelings and a whole context of sociability experienced by the black population.
