Abstract

This article focuses on the curriculum significance in the area of the Portuguese language for pre-school education in Portugal. Our goals are to understand which curriculum aspect is adopted and understand how it is conceived within the Portuguese language. Our methodology focuses on content analysis of certain official documents that shape this curriculum. The main conclusions are: the curriculum is very flexible and is built together with various actors, such as professionals for children, children and families; the acquisition and development of the Portuguese language are seen as something wide, contributing to an understanding of language as a matter of identity and as a question of citizenship.
