A geopolítica de Gorbachev para o Afeganistão: uma breve leitura da avaliação do envolvimento da URSS e da sua desintegração

Abstract

A atuação da União Soviética no Afeganistão divide opiniões até os dias atuais. A decisão do Kremlin de invadir e alterar o governo de seu aliado e país vizinho foi tomada de forma árdua e, serviu, para que o período de aquietação da Guerra Fria – Detente – fosse colocado ao fim e, as disputas territoriais pautadas e manutenção da hegemonia, ressurgiram. O Afeganistão era, no Terceiro Mundo, um dos principais aliados soviéticos. Mesmo com o agravante da sua situação econômica interna, o governo soviético decidiu por invadir e estender seu posicionamento por dez longos anos. Porém, vale ressaltar que a União Soviética já não vinha mantendo seus índices econômicos em alta e sua era de ouro já havia chegado ao fim. Diferentemente do que ocorreu com os Estados Unidos na derrota na Guerra do Vietnã (1955-1975), a URSS acelerou seu fim, porém não podemos resumir todas as causas a isso.

The role of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan divides opinions to this day. The Kremlin's decision to invade and change the government of its ally and neighboring country was taken in an arduous way and served to put an end to the period of calm during the Cold War - Detente - and the territorial disputes based on and maintenance of the hegemony, resurfaced. Afghanistan was, in the Third World, one the main Soviet allies. Even with the aggravation of its internal economic situation, the Soviet government decided to invade and extend its position for ten long years. However, it is worth noting that the Soviet Union was no longer keeping its economic indices high and its golden age had already come to an end. Unlike what happened to the United States in the defeat in the Vietnam War (1955-1975), the USSR accelerated its end, but we cannot summarize all the causes to this.
