University broadcasting was created in Brazil in 1950 and gained prominence at the end of the 1960s. Since then, public institutions have started to operate a few dozen stations. The scenario changed in 2023, in a movement coordinated by federal government and Empresa Brasil de Comunicacao (EBC), in partnership with public universities and federal institutes. The objective of this article is to systematize the expansion of university and public broadcasting from that year, comparing it with the scenario in previous decades. This initiative can be equivalent to more than doubling the number of stations in Public Broadcasting National Network (RNCP).en
