Drummond: leitor de artes plásticas

Abstract

Esta tese estuda o diálogo interartes, mais precisamente aquele estabelecido entre a Literatura e as Artes Plásticas. Assim, tendo em mente o vasto campo que pode haver nesse diálogo, decidiu-se investigar a obra do poeta modernista brasileiro Carlos Drummond de Andrade, destacando os poemas que ele dedicou, explicitamente, às Artes Plásticas. A primeira parte do trabalho apresenta uma antologia, feita a partir da reunião desses poemas. Nela, parte significativa dos poemas é dedicada a artistas plásticos brasileiros, principalmente, àqueles pertencentes à estética modernista, caso de Candido Portinari, Di Cavalcanti, Antônio Bandeira, Renina Katz, Fayga Ostrower etc. Além desses artistas, o olhar de Drummond voltou-se também para artistas de outras épocas, como Manuel da Costa Ataíde e Aleijadinho; assim como também percorreu outras manifestações artísticas, como a fotografia. A partir da leitura atenta desses poemas, constatou-se a presença de quatro procedimentos estilísticos: o uso de biografemas, o poema-voto, as colagens e a metonímia visual, usados pelo poeta para a confecção das peças. A par desses procedimentos, decidiu-se abordar, de modo mais cuidadoso, apenas um poema nos capítulos seguintes. Assim, o segundo capítulo destina-se ao estudo da obra de Oswaldo Goeldi e o terceiro, à obra de Alberto da Veiga Guignard. Essa escolha permitiu investigar e analisar, mais detidamente, não só a poética verbal drummondiana, como também o universo visual desses artistas. Como base teórica, a presente Tese utiliza estudos desenvolvidos por críticos e pesquisadores que problematizaram o frutífero diálogo interartes, assim como se vale da contribuição de pesquisadores que se debruçaram sobre os três principais pilares que compõem o trabalho: o poeta Carlos Drummond de Andrade e os artistas plásticos modernistas Oswaldo Goeldi e Alberto da Veiga Guignard.

This dissertation analyzes the interart dialogue focusing on the Literature and Visual Arts interface. While acknowledging the vast field already developed in this area, this dissertation investigates the work of the Brazilian modernist poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade. And, it sheds light on the poems that he explicitly dedicated to the Visual Arts. The first part of the dissertation introduces an anthology built on a collection of Drummond’s poems. A significant part of these poems is dedicated to Brazilian artists, especially those belonging to the modernist aesthetic such as Candido Portinari, Di Cavalcanti, Antônio Bandeira, Renina Katz, Fayga Ostrower, among others. In addition, Drummond has also considered artists from other eras, for instance, Manuel da Costa Ataíde and Aleijadinho, and other artistic manifestations such as photography. Based on a careful reading of these poems, it was observed the presence of four stylistic procedures applied by Drummond: the use of biografemas, “poema-voto”, collages, and visual metonymy. After considering these procedures, it was decided to take a more conservative approach by analyzing only one poem in each of the following chapters. In this view, the second chapter is dedicated to the study of the work of Oswaldo Goeldi. And, the third chapter looks at the work of Alberto da Veiga Guignard. This choice allowed us to investigate and analyze, more closely, not only Drummond's verbal poetics but also the visual universe of these artists. As for the theoretical framework, this dissertation draws on the literature developed by critics and researchers who raised questions about the fruitful interart dialogues. Furthermore, it builds on the researches’ contributions who focused their work on this dissertation three main pillars: the poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade, and the modernist artists Oswaldo Goeldi and Alberto da Veiga Guignard.
