Resumo

The spread of the industrial mode of production is a proposal of interpretation that aims to resize the industrialization in Brazil. Comparing the process in Sao Paulo and Rio Grande do Norte, both historically and statistically, we found that the dissemination process is a theoretical tool to interpret the processing industries sector as a new way of looking at the Brazilian territory. So, the proposal has its support both empirical and theoretical, because we began by analyzing the process of industrialization in Sao Paulo and then by an objective comparative analysis, we compared what happened in Rio Grande do Norte, what was focused in more details, with the mapping of the recent industrial production. The comparative emphasis favored the manufacturing industry, but took into consideration, especially in Rio Grande do Norte, extractive activities, and the branch that includes electricity, water and gas. It was thus possible to verify that the territorial development based on the industry is based on the continuity of industrial enterprises in the presence of basic industries and complementarity of different branches and levels of the productive sectors, through factors such as location, competitiveness, interaction space, hierarchy and competitiveness.
