Resumo

The present paper aims to analyze the implementation of more energy efficient alternatives in social interest homes, in order to contribute for its economy and the rational use. In this context, it was done a literature review on the concept of sustainable constructions with emphasis on the energy issue, then alternative energies have been set up for a single family house. The daylight, natural ventilation and the green roof were selected as passive strategies and the photovoltaic system as active. Through costs investigations in companies, energy saving and benefit indicators analysis, it was found that the use of daylight and natural ventilation is essential in early project design of the house, providing many social and environmental benefits besides the economic. Green roofs and photovoltaic systems still have a high cost for the majority of Brazilian families even it contributes to the environmental comfort and reduction of electricity respectively. Therefore the government incentives should be made to the dissemination and use of these systems, which can reduce costs and help the viability of the strategies.
