Within the context of the republicanization of institutions and of political agents in Brazil at the beginning of the 20th century, Brazilian diplomacy imbued with reforms during the Rio Branco administration, intensified the Americanization process. The latter consisted of a deep, progressive and mutual approach of the countries in the American continent, especially towards the United States. Hélio Lobo (1883-1960), co-opted by the Brazilian chancellor to renew the personnel of the Brazilian Foreign Office was the representative of the Americanization policy and tried to defend, through diplomacy and historiography, a world view which was coherent to contemporary external policy.
