To this end, the case of Singapore is observed, a former British colony in Southeast Asia that throughout the second half of the twentieth century underwent several internal changes in order to achieve higher levels of income and development. The role of industry and trade balance composition in this process is highlighted. In addition, the measures that consolidated the city-state of Singapore as an important center for financial services are presented. In this process, the role of the state to promote an increase in the complexity of local production chains and to change the international insertion is highlighted.
