This thesis deals with the variation between “nós” ~ “a gente” and the fluctuations between “nós” ~ “nóis” and “a gente” ~ “agente” observed in texts written by 116 students who attended Elementary School II (EF II) in a public school in the city of São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil, from 2008 to 2011. From a theoretical perspective that understands that writing is constituted in a heterogeneous way, our objective is to investigate to what extent the school year, sex/gender and text type factors affect the variation between “nós” ~ “a gente” and the graphic fluctuations between “nós” ~ “nóis” and “a gente” ~ “agente”. From the results achieved, we highlight that: (i) literate/written practices developed in a school environment seem to influence the writing of elementary school students, as the probability of using “nós” in relation to “nóis” is almost 100% in all school years, and the probability of using the hyposegmented spelling “agente”, in relation to the conventional spelling “a gente” is almost 0% in almost all years of Elementary School. (ii) the sex/gender factor is not relevant in the variation between “nó(i)s” ~ “a/gente” nor in the fluctuation of the spellings “nós” ~ “nóis” and “a gente” ~ “a gente”, as boys and girls are very similarly likely to vary and fluctuate these shapes. (iii) the textual type proved to be relevant only for the variation between the conservative and innovative forms, pointing out that the textual typology related to literate/written practices allow a greater frequency of use of the conservative form and the conventional spellings, "nós" and “a gente”, however, when analyzing the thematic proposals, we observed that the use of the spellings “agente” and “nóis” are related to oral/spoken social practices through which the writer circulates in his daily life and which are observable in his written text; and (v) the use of “nós” is related to a possible attempt to elevate the formal writing and the discourses stabilized in the school institution that privileges the literate/written, considered as institutionally defined. These data are interpreted in favor of the thesis that the linguistic variation between "nós" ~ "a gente", which is leading to the change of the pronominal paradigm, and the graphical fluctuation between "nós" ~ "nóis" and "a gente" ~ "agente" are effects of the tension relations between oral/spoken and literacy/writing practices that constitute our society and put in tension the subjects who write. This thesis contributes with the conception that writing is not pure, but constituted by oral/spoken and literacy/writing practices that are present in all texts, as well as with the characterization of the writing of EF II students of a representative school of public schools in the northwestern region of the state of São Paulo in a given historical moment
