This research aims to understand to what extent the philosophical notion of bad faith, proposed by Jean-Paul Sartre, can be seen as a refusal of the concept of the unconscious, present in Freud's psychoanalysis. To this end, we propose the following three fundamental moments: 1) to provide some considerations about the Freudian concept of unconscious considering the theoretical development of psychoanalysis; 2) to discuss the relevance of the notion of consciousness and its unfolding, as it figures in Sartre's philosophical stance; 3) to bring together Freud's psychoanalytic theory, under the guidance of the unconscious, and Sartre's philosophy, supported by the consciousness, emphasizing the notion of bad faith in this confrontation, understanding it as a necessary opening so that Sartre can refuse the whole conceptual apparatus of the Freudian unconscious.
