O processo de descolonização da África após a II Guerra Mundial repercutiu diretamente sobre as políticas públicas das antigas metrópoles européias. A França foi um desses países que até a década de 1960 mantinha colônias na África, cujos Estados sentem até hoje as consequências do antigo poder colonial. Ao mesmo tempo, os migrantes e refugiados oriundos das antigas colônias, sobretudo os argelinos e os “pied noirs”, filhos de franceses nascidos na Argélia, que buscaram reconstruir as suas vidas na França metropolitana durante e após a guerra de independência argelina (1954-1962), sofreram vários problemas de adaptação e de discriminação, mesmo no interior dos estabelecimentos escolares franceses. Seus descendentes, ainda hoje, enfrentam dificuldades de integração ao modelo de educação tradicional, sobretudo nas escolas das “banlieues” (periferias). Mas como a França lida com seus “filhos” gerados em outra terra? A Declaração Universal dos Direitos Humanos prevê no seu artigo 26 que todos os seres humanos têm direito a educação e que ela deve ser gratuita pelo menos nos graus elementares e fundamentais, salienta ainda que deve promover a compreensão, a tolerância e amizade entre todas as nações e grupos raciais e religiosos em prol da manutenção da paz. O presente trabalho tem por objetivo analisar os resultados obtidos através da revisão da literatura e refletir sobre os fundamentos republicanos presentes na história da educação francesa, desde a década de 1880, e as contradições desse sistema educativo na perspectiva da terceira geração de migrantes e refugiados presentes no filme “Entre os muros da escola”, dirigido em 2007 por Laurent Cantet, cineasta francês graduado pelo Instituto de Estudos Cinematográficos Avançados. O filme Entre les Murs (Anexo A) foi resultado de uma parceria entre Cantet e o escritor do livro homônimo François Bégaudeau.

The decolonization process in Africa after World War II had a direct impact on public policies in the former European metropolises. France was one of those countries that until the 1960s maintained colonies in Africa, whose states still feel the consequences of the former colonial power. At the same time, migrants and refugees from the former colonies, especially Algerians and “pied noirs”, children of Frenchmen born in Algeria, who sought to rebuild their lives in metropolitan France during and after the Algerian war of independence (1954- 1962), suffered various problems of adaptation and discrimination, even within french schools. Their descendants, even today, face difficulties in integrating into the traditional education model, especially in schools in the “banlieues” (periphery areas). But how does France deal with its “children” generated in another land? The Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides in its article 26 that all human beings have the right to education and that it must be free at least in the elementary and fundamental levels, it also stresses that it must promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations and racial and religious groups in support of peace. The present work intends to analyze the results obtained through the literature review and reflect on the republican foundations present in the history of French education, since the 1880s, and the contradictions of this educational system from the perspective of the third generation of migrants and refugees present in the film “Between the walls of the school”, directed in 2007 by Laurent Cantet, french filmmaker graduated from the Institute of Advanced Cinematographic Studies. The film Entre les Murs (Annex A) was the result of a partnership between Cantet and the writer of the homonymous book François Bégaudeau.
