Esta pesquisa trata da abordagem ambiental na geografia agrária. Seu objetivo principal consiste em analisar a produção científica relacionada à geografia agrária e à questão ambiental nos programas de pós-graduação em geografia das universidades públicas do estado de São Paulo, no período entre 2001 e 2018. Para a realização deste estudo, buscamos compreender, a partir de uma revisão bibliográfica, os seguintes assuntos: a proximidade entre a discussão científica moderna sobre a natureza e o nascimento da ciência geográfica; e, a relação histórica da geografia – e da geografia agrária – com a abordagem ambiental. Para que este objetivo central fosse atingido, optamos pela análise de 17 teses e 29 dissertações selecionadas e analisadas a partir das orientações metodológicas da Análise de Conteúdo. Nesta análise, identificamos alguns dos aspectos gerais da abordagem agrária e ambiental da geografia no início deste século, já num novo contexto teórico-metodológico. Entre esses aspectos, destacam-se os estudos sobre os impactos socioambientais relacionados à modernização agropecuária, os conflitos entre comunidades tradicionais e unidades de conservação e a aproximação entre a geografia agrária e a agroecologia, possibilitando novas estratégias de luta e permanência na terra.

This research deals with the environmental approach in agrarian geography. Its main objective is to analyze the scientific production related to agrarian geography and to the environmental issue in the postgraduate Geography programs of public universities in the state of São Paulo between 2001 and 2018. In order to carry out this study, we sought to understand, from a bibliographic review, the following subjects: the proximity between the modern scientific discussion on nature and the birth of geographic science; the historical relationship of geography - and agrarian geography - with an environmental approach. To address the central objective of the work, we opted for the analysis of 17 theses and 29 dissertations selected and analyzed from the methodological orientations of Content Analysis. In this analysis, some of the general aspects of the agrarian and environmental approach to geography at the beginning of this century can be identified, already in a new theoretical-methodological context. Among these aspects, there are some which stood out: socio-environmental impacts related to agricultural modernization, conflicts between traditional communities and conservation units, and the approximation between agrarian geography and agroecology, allowing new strategies for fighting and for staying on land.
