This essay demonstrates that literature is a tool of resistance against the machismo. It is analyzed the text Carlota Gentina nao chegou de voar?, a short story written by Mia Couto. The conclusion of this work shows that it is necessary to change the unfair patriarchal reality, based on the extreme situations represented in the literary text. The silent and the unrighteous death of Carlota is the main part of Mia Couto' s story that raises issues against the patriarchal ideology, considering the structure and the theme, based on the way explored by Bosi (2002) in his book about literature and resistance.en
