Biodiesel can be obtained from extracted oil of different oilseeds. The production of this biofuel is carried out by several routes, among them the most common way involves two main stages: the first one related to oil extraction from oilseeds and the second one, includes the conversion of that oil into biodiesel. This review work presents a technical feasibility study about production and use of Andean lupine oil (Lupinis mutabilis) for biodiesel production through methanolic route. Besides, it is described some theoretical physic-chemical properties of Andean lupine biodiesel obtained by mathematical. According to similarity of physic-chemical characteristics between Andean lupine and soy oils, it can be evidenced the possibility of utilization of Andean lupine seeds for bioenergy. The theoretical properties calculated for Andean lupine biodiesel, such as density (20 degrees C), cetane index, heat power and dynamic viscosity (40 degrees C) are close to soy biodiesel properties and befitting with the limits stablished by Brazilian laws that regulate the biodiesel industry. Considering the exhibited data in this work, it can be affirmed, from a technical point of view, that Andean lupine can be considered promising for energy market, especially for the Andes ecoregion. However, the suggested processes should be experimentally implemented with the purpose to assess the proposed conditions and thus to compare the theoretical approaches, due to the properties of Andean lupine biodiesel were not found in experimental data of biodiesel production from Andean lupine seeds.en
