dc.description.abstractPublished in September 1922, Isaac Goldberg's work, entitled Brazilian Literature, represents an important milestone in the dissemination and systematization of Brazilian literature from the point of view of an American writer. Divided into two parts, entitled An outline history of Brazilian Literature and Representative personalities, the critic's work offers an overview that highlights the main moments in the history of Brazilian literature and selects the most representative writers. Written in English, Goldberg's work is influenced by the stories of Brazilian Literature by Silvio Romero, published in 1888, by Jose Verissimo (1916) and Ronald de Carvalho (1920). The objective of this work, therefore, is to analyze the linkage of Isaac Goldberg's critical method in relation to the methods used by Brazilian intellectuals to make up the first three histories of Brazilian Literature.en
