O objetivo central desta pesquisa é analisar os principais desafios existentes no trabalho do/a assistente social na assistência estudantil no contexto da Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” - UNESP, tendo como recorte temporal o período: março de 2022 a março de 2023. Ao considerar as principais requisições profissionais advindas do processo de expansão do Ensino Superior brasileiro; inclusão do Programa Nacional de Assistência Estudantil (PNAES) e Programa Nacional de Assistência Estudantil para as Universidades Estaduais (PNAEST); implementação gradativa do Sistema de Reserva de Vagas para Educação Básica Pública (SRVEBP) na realidade da UNESP, incluindo as cotas afirmativas para o público autodeclarados Pretos, Pardos e Indígenas (PPI); diante da dimensão e complexidade dos fatores que compreendem a dinâmica da assistência estudantil na universidade, o estudo provoca algumas reflexões sobre as mudanças que são necessárias para a consolidação de uma política de assistência estudantil na UNESP e revela a significativa contribuição dos/as assistentes sociais na luta pela efetivação da permanência estudantil enquanto direito social. Isto posto, de acordo com a ordem cronológica e sistematizada na coleta das informações, discussões e resultados que serão apresentados no estudo, as análises e interpretações de dados teve como referência a perspectiva das categorias do método materialista histórico dialético e foram realizadas nas seguintes etapas: i) revisão bibliográfica; ii) pesquisa documental e iii) pesquisa de campo com as assistentes sociais que atuam na área da assistência estudantil nos diversos campis da UNESP, utilizando o “google forms”. Ademais, a pesquisadora assumirá o compromisso ético em promover a devolutiva dos resultados obtidos aos/às participantes da pesquisa. Através da utilização dos processos metodológicos eleitos, foi possível pensar na centralidade da educação do país e tendo em vista o projeto educacional hegemônico em curso, ou seja, devidamente sistematizado para a consecução dos objetivos da sociabilidade capitalista, a pesquisa tem como propósito apresentar indicativos que possam contribuir em proposições interventivas no âmbito das políticas educacionais, especificamente na assistência estudantil orientadas na concepção da permanência material e simbólica que atendam e contemplem o sentimento de pertencimento no ambiente universitário, os aspectos biopsicossociais, além dos pedagógicos que incidem sobre o processo de ensino-aprendizagem e portanto, refletem na permanência dos/as/es estudantes, principalmente aqueles/as advindos/as/es da classe trabalhadora empobrecida e/ou que sofrem algum tipo de opressão, preconceitos e vulnerabilidades sociais.

The central objective of this research is to analyze the main challenges existing in the work of social workers in student assistance in the context of Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” - UNESP, taking the period as a time frame: March 2022 to March 2023. When considering the main professional requirements arising from the expansion process of Brazilian Higher Education; inclusion of the National Student Assistance Program (PNAES) and the National Student Assistance Program for State Universities (PNAEST); gradual implementation of the Vacancy Reservation System for Public Basic Education (SRVEBP) in the reality of UNESP, including affirmative quotas for the self-declared Black, Brown and Indigenous public (PPI); given the dimension and complexity of the factors that comprise the dynamics of student assistance at the university, the study provokes some reflections on the changes that are necessary for the consolidation of a student assistance policy at UNESP and reveals the significant contribution of social workers in fight for the realization of student permanence as a social right. That said, in accordance with the chronological and systematized order in the collection of information, discussions and results that will be presented in the study, the data analyzes and interpretations were based on the perspective of the categories of the dialectical historical materialist method and were carried out in the following stages: i) bibliographic review; ii) documentary research and iii) field research with social workers who work in the area of student assistance on the different UNESP campuses, using “google forms”. Furthermore, the researcher will assume the ethical commitment to promote the return of the results obtained to the research participants. Through the use of the chosen methodological processes, it was possible to think about the centrality of education in the country and taking into account the hegemonic educational project in progress, that is, duly systematized to achieve the objectives of capitalist sociability, the research aimed to present indicators that can contribute to interventional propositions within the scope of educational policies, specifically in student assistance guided by the conception of material and symbolic permanence that meet and contemplate the feeling of belonging in the university environment, the biopsychosocial aspects, in addition to the pedagogical ones that affect the teaching process learning and therefore, reflect on the permanence of students, especially those who come from the impoverished working class and/or who suffer some type of oppression, prejudice and social vulnerabilities.
