cidades e promovem a preservação do meio ambiente. Entretanto, nos municípios do Vale do
Ribeira, a vegetação urbana é escassa e predominantemente de origem exótica. Buscando
Tree planting and urban landscaping are essential to the well-being of the population of cities and for promoting the preservation of the environment. However, in the municipalities of Vale do Ribeira, urban vegetation is scarce and predominantly of exotic origin. Seeking ways to enrich this environment with species native to the Atlantic Forest, this work suggests plants native to the region that are suitable for use on sidewalks, squares, parks, woods and flowerbeds. Landscaping use, relationships with green areas and with urban equipment were considered. For this, a survey of native plants was carried out, both those already used and those with potential use, with subsequent filling of a catalog with photos and pertinent information. The catalog had 49 species of plants divided into four categories (trees, palm trees, shrubs and ground cover) and the information available was: place of occurrence, size when adult, flowering time, landscaping use and reproduction. Indications were made for the use of each species so that they are planted in suitable places, avoiding damage to public and private infrastructure. The Vale do Ribeira region has the potential to become a reference in the application of urban landscaping with native species and may even develop tourism and the economy focused on this sector. This way, the catalog can be used as a source of information for decision makers, lay people or people interested in the subject, as an expandable tool, as a portfolio for producers and nurserymen and as a reference for other materials related to the subject.
