This text discusses the work analogous to slave labour in Brazil, emphasizing the controversies regarding the contemporary slave labour concept. We analysed data from the inspections of slave-like labour carried out jointly by the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MTE), the Public Ministry of Labour, the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police from 1995 to 2015, from which we verified that it is a problem present at national level. That is, only one state of the Federation did not appear in the relation of slave-like labour, although, the highlight is for the state of Para (PA), which tops the ranking with 30% of all rescues, followed by the state of Mato Grosso (MT) with 10.22%; Maranhao (MA) with 8.30%; Minas Gerais (MG) with 7.40%, Tocantins with 7.10% and Goias (GO) with 6.04% of the total rescues, bringing together the six states that most enslave workers in Brazil. In addition, the rescues occurred in more than 70% in the agroindustry and livestock, a percentage that can increase when considering the occurrences on behalf of natural persons, which totalled 4.59%, and may be questioned whether it is not contractors or hiring intermediaries of labour force for the rural area, which is very common. It was also found that, of all the rescues, 2.60% of the occurrences refer to the sugar cane industry. Moreover, to a lesser extent, practically all the economic sectors have a history of rescue from slave-like labour. Thus, it was concluded that the labour market in Brazil was and still is marked by the widespread exploitation and various forms of subordination, control and violence against workers, expressed in materializations of the systemic degradation, and by negation of the development of the human race.
