Mulheres contam o manicômio : a escritura de Stela do Patrocínio e Maura Lopes Cançado

Abstract

Esse trabalho é uma pesquisa teórica e descritiva sobre a experiência feminina da loucura, partindo da análise da obra de Stela do Patrocínio e de Maura Lopes Cançado, com o objetivo de compreender as particularidades da experiência manicomial de mulheres psiquiatrizadas no Brasil. Partimos da premissa da escritura enquanto um registro, um testemunho da experiência. Para tanto, utilizamos a genealogia entrelaçada com a literatura do testemunho e do trauma, enquanto referencial teórico metodológico, o que nos ajudou a visualizar as condições de possibilidade para que essa relação entre loucura e sujeito feminino se torne visível e dizível em todas suas especificidades. Embora marcadas pela exclusão e violência institucional, as narrativas de Stela e Maura funcionam como ato de resistência e sobrevivência, resgatando a memória e afirmando a singularidade e subjetividade dessas mulheres. Consideramos, ainda, nessa pesquisa os atravessamentos de classe, raça e gênero, destacando que a loucura feminina foi construída historicamente a partir do discurso médico e patriarcal, que reforçam a submissão feminina. Partindo do pensamento feminista, articulamos esse referencial com os trabalhos de Michel Foucault, Maurice Blanchot, Gilles Deleuze, a partir dos conceitos de escrita de si, arquivamento de si e literatura menor, para refletir como as instituições psiquiátricas historicamente medicalizaram, patologizaram e silenciaram corpos e vozes femininas. Argumentamos como a escritura produzida por essas mulheres reclusas em manicômios e institucionalizadas - fragmentária, poética, insurgente –, desafia a narrativa oficial sobre a loucura feminina, deslocando Stela e Maura de uma posição de objetos do saber psiquiátrico para a condição de sujeitos que possuem e produzem um saber sobre si mesmas. E, que, essas produções artísticas funcionam enquanto contranarrativas que reescrevem a história da loucura partindo de uma perspectiva feminina.

This work is a theoretical and descriptive study of the female experience of madness,based on an analysis of the work of Stela do Patrocínio and Maura Lopes Cançado,aiming to understand the particularities of the asylum experience of psychiatricallytreated women in Brazil. We begin with the premise of writing as a record, atestimony of experience. To this end, we use genealogy intertwined with the literatureof testimony and trauma as a theoretical and methodological framework, whichhelped us visualize the conditions that make this relationship between madness andthe female subject visible and expressible in all its specificities. Although marked byexclusion and institutional violence, Stela and Maura narratives function as an actof resistance and survival, reclaiming memory and affirming the singularity and subjectivity of these women. In this research, we also consider the intersections ofclass, race, and gender, highlighting that female madness was historically constructed based on medical and patriarchal discourse, which reinforces femalesubjugation. Drawing on feminist thought, we articulate this framework with the worksof Michel Foucault, Maurice Blanchot, and Gilles Deleuze, drawing on the conceptsof self-writing, self-archiving, and minor literature, to reflect on how psychiatricinstitutions have historically medicalized, pathologized, and silenced female bodiesand voices. We argue how the writing produced by these women confined in mentalinstitutions and institutionalized inmates—fragmentary, poetic, andinsurgent - challenges the official narrative about female madness, shifting Stela andMaura from the position of objects of psychiatric knowledge to the status of subjectswho possess and produce knowledge about themselves. Furthermore, these artistic productions function as counter narratives that rewrite the history of madness from afemale perspective.
