A química das cores dos tecidos africanos: uma transposição didática para valorizar a etnociência africana

Abstract

The decolonization of the curriculum is necessary in face of the clear Eurocentric scientific hegemony, which makes invisible other ethnosciences, such as the African one, disregarding the great technological, scientific, commercial, and even political and administrative contributions that exist in Africa. Thus, specifying the making, weaving, dyeing, and printing of textiles of the Asante group, belonging to the Akan people, located in the region of Ghana, this work aimed to contextualize and enhance the African culture and ethnoscience and, at the same time, relate the issue of organic and natural pigments used in these textiles to chemical concepts such as structure and naming of the molecule, types of bonds, functional groups and polarization that are present in pigment molecules, which can be addressed in the teaching of chemistry for high school. Therefore, based on the relationship between this knowledge - African and curricular - a proposal for didactic transposition was presented, with what is already required in the high school curriculum for the teaching of Chemistry, and with what is foreseen by Law 10.639/2003, which made the teaching of African and Afro-Brazilian History and Culture mandatory. To this end, bibliographic research was conducted, with a survey of primary and secondary sources on the subject, concluding that an understanding of the world goes beyond school content and books, and that reality needs questioning about the "truths" established and learned throughout history so that everyone can be open to knowing and recognizing other epistemologies and ethnosciences.

A descolonização do currículo se faz necessária diante da nítida hegemonia científica eurocêntrica, que invisibiliza outras etnociências, como é o caso da africana, desconsiderando as grandes contribuições tecnológicas, científicas, comerciais e, até mesmo políticas e administrativas, existentes na África. Sendo assim, especificando a confecção, tecelagem, tingimento e estamparia de tecidos do grupo Asante, pertencente ao povo Akan, localizado na região de Gana, este trabalho objetivou contextualizar e valorizar a cultura e a etnociência africana e, ao mesmo tempo, relacionar a questão de pigmentos orgânicos e naturais utilizados nesses tecidos à conceitos químicos como estrutura e nomeação da molécula, tipos de ligações, grupos funcionais e polarização que se faz presentes nas moléculas de pigmentos, possíveis de serem abordados no ensino de Química para o ensino médio. Portanto, a partir da relação entre esses saberes – africano e curricular – foi apresentada uma proposta de transposição didática, com o que já é exigido no currículo do ensino médio para o ensino de Química, e com o que prevê a Lei 10.639/2003, que tornou obrigatório o ensino da História e Cultura da África e Afro-brasileira. Para isso, realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica, com um levantamento de fontes primárias e secundárias acerca do assunto, concluindo que uma compreensão de mundo vai além dos conteúdos escolares e dos livros, e que a realidade necessita de questionamentos acerca das “verdades” estabelecidas e aprendidas ao longo da história, para que todos possam estar abertos a conhecerem e reconhecerem outras epistemologias e etnociências.
