Indigenous history, country music, and memory in history class: Challenges of investigation in teaching practice

dc.description.abstractThere is no teaching without research. In this article, we start from the premise that lesson preparation and reflection on classroom experiences are forms of research. From this perspective, we aim to demonstrate the process of designing and implementing a didactic sequence focused on indigenous themes, applied to high school classes in a federal school. Thus, we address issues related to the history of indigenous peoples and the challenge of teaching this in a way that is meaningful for students’ lives. We also present the bibliographic study and the materials (the song “Sertão do Laranjinha” by Tonico and Tinoco, and memoir texts by Astolfo Severo Baptista among others) used for constructing the lessons. Finally, we outline considerations regarding the development stages of the proposal and list the prior ideas and results obtained from student participation in the activities.en
