A literatura fantástica, emergente entre os séculos XVIII e XIX, tem se manifestado ao longo dos anos em variados contextos sociais e de produção, de diferentes formas, configurando novas perspectivas e acepções acerca de suas especificidades textuais e semânticas. O século XIX, majoritariamente, é conhecido como o marco do fantástico, sobretudo nas narrativas europeias de Maupassant e Hoffman e na estadunidense de Edgar Allan Poe. À época, no Brasil, essas narrativas “fantasiosas” foram suprimidas pelas que prezassem pelo realismo e poder documental nacional, não recebendo a devida atenção da crítica e história literária. Entretanto, novos estudos, a partir do século XX, têm-se debruçado sobre a presença fantástica na literatura deste período. No século XX, essa modalidade exerceu um papel notório na literatura brasileira do período, trazendo à tona novos autores que se consagraram no gênero. Já no século XXI, a literatura fantástica ainda tem o seu papel, adaptando-se às novas transformações. Conjugando estes aspectos, objetiva-se com este trabalho analisar a manifestação do fantástico na série literária brasileira, entre meados do século XIX e início do século XXI, de modo a analisar e explorar suas principais particularidades, conversões e oscilações temáticas e de estilo, sob as formas do conto e miniconto, as quais, indissociavelmente, se ligam à produção de efeitos e sentidos do fantástico. A tese desenvolvida é a de que o fantástico é um gênero fluido, interpolar e se modificou de acordo com os contextos e suportes (conto e miniconto) de produção, oscilando do chamado fantástico tradicional às produções contemporâneas, com as devidas nomenclaturas, subclassificações e acepções semânticas e estilísticas. Para a comprovação dessa hipótese, retomando estudos na área, foram selecionados exemplos narrativos de autores brasileiros do século XIX ao XXI que permeiam a literatura fantástica, em diferentes estados significativos, compondo os objetos de estudo desta pesquisa narrativas oitocentistas de Álvares de Azevedo, Fagundes Varela e Machado de Assis; as do século XX de Murilo Rubião, Lygia Fagundes Telles e de Jayme Griz; e as dos anos iniciais do século XXI de Nuno Ramos. Ademais, ressalta-se a importância desta pesquisa, de forma a explorar a literatura fantástica brasileira, ampliando a gama de textos e autores, apresentando demais perspectivas teórico-críticas não só acerca do fantástico, como também do conto e do miniconto contemporâneo.

The fantastic literature, which emerged between the 18th and 19th centuries, has manifested itself over the years in various social and production contexts, in different forms, configuring new perspectives and meanings regarding its textual and semantic specificities. The 19th century is mostly known as the landmark of the fantastic, especially in the European narratives of Maupassant and Hoffman and in the American narratives of Edgar Allan Poe. At the time, in Brazil, these “fantastics” narratives were suppressed by those that valued realism and national documentary power, not receiving due attention from literary critics and history. However, new studies, since the 20th century, have focused on the presence of fantasy in the literature of this period. In the 20th century, this modality played a notable role in Brazilian literature of the period, bringing to light new authors who became renowned in the genre. In the 21st century, fantasy literature still has its role, adapting to new transformations. Combining these aspects, the aim of this work is to analyze the manifestation of the fantastic in Brazilian literary series, between the mid-19th century and the beginning of the 21st century, in order to analyze and explore its main particularities, conversions and thematic and stylistic oscillations, in the forms of short stories and mini-stories, which are inextricably linked to the production of effects and meanings of the fantastic. The thesis developed is that the fantastic is a fluid, interpolated genre that has changed according to the contexts and supports (short story and mini-story) of production, oscillating from the so-called traditional fantastic to contemporary productions, with the due nomenclatures, subclassifications and semantic and stylistic meanings. In order to prove this hypothesis, based on other studies in the area, narrative examples of brazilian authors from the 19th to the 21st Century were selected that permeate fantastic literature, in different significant states, composing the objects of study of this nineteenth-century research narratives by Álvares de Azevedo, Fagundes Varela and Machado de Assis; those from the 20th century by Murilo Rubião, Lygia Fagundes Telles and Jayme Griz; and those from the early years of the 21st century by Nuno Ramos. Furthermore, the importance of this research is highlighted, in order to explore Brazilian fantasy literature, expanding the range of texts and authors, presenting other theoretical-critical perspectives not only about the fantastic literature, but also about the contemporary tale and short tale.
