The construction of the teaching identity is a relevant theme in several studies on education, because of the understanding this identity configuration, the paradigm of what it means to be a teacher is changed. A change that tends to leave the technicist conception of the teacher as a mere applicator of classes, to that of subject in an integrative view that plans its actions and constitutes itself in the profession based on the relationship with other social partners, concrete or not, that is, co-workers, school community, initial and continuing education studies, socially shared discourses about the profession among others. Although the teaching identity is a subject of wide discussion, a gap is perceived when it comes to specifically the daycare teacher. This gap is probably due to the late genesis in Brazil, access to this education service, in addition to being for a long time under the responsibility of the social assistance, being conceived as an educational service only from the Law of Guidelines and Bases of 1996. In order to contribute to this theme, this research aims to investigate subjective and social aspects that interfere in the construction of the teacher identity of daycare teachers who work in the municipal network of a city in the interior of São Paulo and, as specific objectives: 1 - raise the meanings that permeate the teachers' imagination about the teacher's role in the day care center and, as such, relate to their self-image and appreciation in light of the historical rescue of the (de)professionalization of teachers; 2 - raise the meanings that these teachers have on the view of families for teaching work and for the daycare/family relationship; 3 – discuss aspects related to the care/education binomial and how affective relationships impact on identity construction.Ten teachers participated answering to a semistructured interview made by phone call. The adaptation for data collection was necessary due to the pandemic scenario, considering that the teachers were on a telecommuting regime. The research is qualitative as it works with meanings, data that imprint the subjectivity of the participants being difficult quantitative framework. The interview followed a script with questions grouped along the following lines: 1- personal information; 2- initial and continuing training and professional experience; 3-be a teacher of nursery; 4- relationship with the school community. After transcribing the telephone interviews, recorded through the Call Recorder application, the responses of the ten participants were selected for analysis giving rise to four axes of discussion: the first on care relationships; the second about being nursery teacher; the third on professional fulfillment and the legitimacy of third parties to the profession and the fourth on the nursery/family relationship. The analyzes were carried out in the light of the theoretical framework of other research on identity and early childhood education, allowing to find points of approximation with the existing literature on brands that emphasize the affectivity and feminization of the profession, reinforcing the collective imagination that it is necessary to like and have a "knack" with children to be teacher and the consequent de professionalization that this can entail. It was also concluded that this affectivity can give rise to feelings that contaminate the relationship with families with speeches substitutes for family action and not complementary with the official documents. Finally, the presence of still diffuse and fluctuating contours on the identity of the teachers by showing, in some moments, little clarity about their social role and how to legitimize it in front of lay people to educational process.
