This work addresses the artistic research developed by the author, which resulted in an alternative procedure for printing woodcuts. “Simultaneous Plates” was the nomenclature used to encompass the set of technical possibilities and graphic effects resulting from this procedure. It presents a description of the research carried out in the studio, the systematization of this knowledge and artworks resulting from the experiments. Woodprints made with this procedure carry gradients, half-tones, negative prints and the possibility of combining plates by summing the engraved areas. These characteristics relate wood printmaking to other reproduction techniques, such as chalcography and monotype.
