O presente trabalho busca analisar as diversas questões que permeiam o silenciamento e a
invisibilidade das mulheres vítimas de violência sexual, a partir de um viés feminista e de
gênero, em Okinawa, uma ilha japonesa que abriga 32 bases militares estadunidenses desde
sua ocupação no ano de 1945. Entende-se que o objeto referido possui uma relevância maior
na produção científica brasileira pois, não existe, até o momento da elaboração desse texto,
um material em português que aborda sobre o assunto e por consequência, se observou
também que o material existente foi produzido apenas nos idiomas, inglês e japonês.
Além disso, foi levado em consideração que as questões abordadas na pesquisa possuem
especificidades históricas, culturais e sociais que envolvem vivências diversas de mulheres
okinawanas que estão inseridas em um recorte de gênero e político específico da sua
localidade, que, por sua vez, tem fortes impactos na forma de opressão e subalternidade onde
são submetidas. Nesse sentido, foi utilizado autores feministas do campo das Relações
Internacionais e também fora dele, além do método gramsciano de hegemonia e tradução.
O texto será dividido em três grandes periodizações, onde cada uma delas corresponde à um
caso específico de violência sexual ocorrida na ilha e às suas particularidades políticas que
envolveram as diferentes fases do militarismo estadunidense e a relação EUA X Japão X
Okinawa: a) 1947-1972, período de construção das bases em Okinawa com maiores
dificuldades de documentação sobre as ocorrências; b) 1972-1995, tomando-se 1972 como o
ano em que começam a existir, mesmo com ressalvas, estatísticas mais detalhadas sobre os
ocorridos; c) 1995-2016, anos de início e fim de conjunto de violências conhecidas e relatadas
que tiveram maior publicidade e visibilidade. Na última parte, será apresentada uma análise
sobre uma outra perspectiva das mulheres okinawanas, aquela denominada amejos.

The present work seeks to analyze the various issues that permeate the silencing and invisibility
of women victims of sexual violence, from a feminist perspective and gender, in Okinawa, a
Japanese island that has been home to 32 US military bases since its occupation in the year
1945. It is understood that the referred object has a greater protection in Brazilian scientific
production because, until the moment of writing this text, there is no a material in Portuguese
that addresses the subject and consequently, if provided also that the existing material was only
produced in the languages, English and Japanese.
In addition, it was taken into account that the questions addressed in the research have historical,
cultural and social specificities that involve diverse experiences of women Okinawans who are
embedded in a specific gender and political frame of their locality, which, in turn, has strong
impacts in the form of oppression and subalternity Where are maintained. In this sense, feminist
authors from the field of Internacional Relations were used and also outside it, in addition to
the Gramscian method of hegemony and translation.
The text will be divided into three major periodizations, where each of them will correspond to
a specific case of sexual violence that occurred on the island and its political particularities that
would involve the different phases of US militarism and the US X Japan X relationship
Okinawa: a) 1947-1972, period of construction of bases in Okinawa with greater difficulties in
documenting the occurrences; b) 1972-1995, taking 1972 as the year in which it begins to exist,
even with reservations, more influential statistics on the happenings; c) 1995-2016, years of
beginning and end of known and reported set of violences which had greater publicity and
visibility. In the last part, an analysis of another perspective of Okinawan women will be
presented, the one called amejos.
