Esta dissertação é um estudo do romance Red Sorghum, do escritor chinês Mo Yan, ganhador do prêmio Nobel de Literatura de 2012, e trata das visões política e histórica da obra, sua relação com o realismo fantástico latino-americano, as vozes do narrador e dos personagens, e a articulação destes ramos em um todo literariamente coeso e significativo. Veremos como o romance se articula com a história da China da primeira metade do século 20, com o período da invasão japonesa e com o começo da guerra civil entre comunistas e nacionalistas após o fim da Segunda Guerra Mundial, que resultou na fundação da República Popular da China. Além disso, também analiso aspectos técnicos de Red Sorghum, como a posição do narrador e questões de personagens e da trama em si. Por fim, a dissertação situa Red Sorghum na literatura do final do século passado, discute a influência do realismo fantástico na obra, e também seu peso na história contemporânea da China.

This dissertation focus on the novel Red Sorghum, written by the Chinese author Mo Yan, Nobel Prize winner for Literature in 2012, in aspects like narrator, narratives, political views of the novel, and the relation of Red Sorghum with the history of China. I will analyze how the novel relates to the history of China in the first half of the twentieth century, the period of Japanese invasion, and the beggining of the civil war between the communists and the nacionalists after the end of the Second World War, leading to the foundation of the People’s Republic of China. Moreover, I also analyze techincal aspects of the novel, the narrator’s focus, characters and the plot itself. Finally, this dissertation aims to allocate Red Sorghum in the context of the literature in the end of the last century, and also in relation with the contemporary Chinese literature.
